London Connoisseur was founded in 2015 by Helen Chislett, who has built up a considerable reputation writing about luxury design and decoration for international publications, including the Financial Times’ award-winning magazine ‘How To Spend It’. Having forged strong relationships with artists and makers over many years, whose work she has passionately championed within her features, she set out to create a service that connects superb artisanship with those continually seeking extraordinary and exceptional star pieces. The high standard of curation is a direct result of Helen’s own ‘black book’ of highly respected makers. London Connoisseur offers the opportunity to benefit from this highly exclusive network.
What sets London Connoisseur apart from other art advisory services is that Helen believes that the decorative arts are as valid as fine art; that design has parity with superb craftsmanship. Every commission we undertake is unique and therefore private to the client. Ideally, it is a collaboration between patron and maker that results in something both spectacular and absolutely individual. We believe that what the client brings to the conversation is integral to the impact and success of a fully bespoke project.
We also encourage those who come to us to look at the full spectrum of what is available in terms of material and process. Our textural palette is rich and varied, from verre églomisé and marquetry to leather, copper, bronze and gold. Even the humblest of materials, such as woven willow, undergoes an alchemic transformation in the hands of the artist. Technology is also celebrated, with lighting and wall art that embraces the most cutting-edge solutions. While the work shown on our Artists’ pages is truly inspirational, it is only the beginning of the story. London Connoisseur also has a huge network of specialist workshops, facilitators, craftspeople and artists who we can draw on to create bespoke commissions of every scale and type.
At London Connoisseur we can either work with the client’s chosen interior design team or project-manage the entire experience from discussing the initial space and concept, making suitable introductions, arranging studio visits for clients, and overseeing the project from agreed specification to finished piece. If appropriate, we can also undertake shipping, delivery and installation.
We recognise that architects, developers and interior design professionals working in the super-prime property market – often for international clients with multiple homes and yachts – face a constant challenge in terms of finding something new, rare, skilled and spectacular with which to please and impress their clients. In addition, they need to know that anything commissioned will be delivered on time and to the agreed spec and budget.
In addition, we offer luxury brands a unique opportunity to partner with an extraordinary array of talented artist-designer-makers, whether to produce signature pieces for specific projects or events, or to undertake entire concepts for show apartments, luxury hotels, flagship stores or corporate environments. Increasingly, brands understand the kudos of being associated with hand-crafted artisanship of the highest level.
